Episode 4: 30 Years of Water Damage Restoration: How One Las Vegas Contractor Became an Industry Authority

Season 1

About This Episode

Craig Herrmann has spent three decades transforming from a commercial janitor into one of the nation’s leading mold remediation experts — literally co-authoring the international standards that govern the industry. Based in Las Vegas since 1973, his company Mold Eliminators handles everything from simple water heater failures to post-hurricane disasters, and employs a full-time insurance advocate to fight for homeowners when carriers deny legitimate claims.

In this episode, we talk with Craig Herrmann, Owner of Mold Eliminators about how Craig got started, what drives the business, and what sets Mold Eliminators apart.

Key Takeaways

  • Co-author of the IICRC S520, the international standard governing mold remediation — literally wrote the book on industry best practices
  • Holds 11 IICRC certifications with two master-level designations (fire and water damage restoration)
  • Handles extreme scenarios most contractors never see, including post-hurricane disaster remediation where homes were underwater for extended periods
  • Offers full-service capabilities: mold, water, fire, crime scene cleanup, hoarding situations, asbestos removal, and lead paint remediation — plus reconstruction through Construction by Mirage

Notable Quotes

“I have the privilege of being a co-author of the International Mold Standard. You wrote the book. I enjoyed it. It was enjoyable to be consulting with other people who are much smarter than me. I’m pretty smart, but these cats are much more scientifically involved.”
